POOLS 4 SCHOOLS COMES
TO COLCHESTER
The old
Heath School site opposite Stanway
School, Colchester, is soon to be
the latest venue for the national
Pools 4 Schools™ programme,
sponsored by British Gas.
With
one in five children unable to swim
by the time they leave primary
school, the initiative is giving
thousands of British children the
chance to learn to swim in temporary
pools across the country.
The 12m
x 6m pool has been installed during
the run up to Christmas and will be
operational for six weeks from 4th
January, with pupils from 16 other
schools in the area also using the
facility.
In
addition, there will be a community
programme on offer, during
out-of-school hours and any groups
wishing to take advantage of this
offer should contact Chris Taylor at
the Colchester School Sports
Partnership via email on,
taylorchris@thurstable.essex.sch.uk.
British
Gas Pools 4 Schools, is the
brainchild of Olympic
bronze-medallist Steve Parry, who
himself nearly drowned as a
youngster. His aim is to support
young people in achieving the
National Curriculum target of
swimming 25m and to gain an
understanding of water safety.
