For Christmas

school teacher in Sierra Leone (the country where we
already sponsor a child) rather than sending cards
to our valued advertisers. You can find out more

Businesswomen launch Christmas toy appeal for
Colchester General Hospital
A pair
of businesswomen have launched a Christmas toy
appeal for children at Colchester General Hospital.
Jan Robinson and Jan Canter, who run the Crystal
Threads shop in Elmstead Market, are collecting new
and good quality second-hand toys between now and
Saturday 6 December.
The
toys will be donated to the Children’s Ward,
Children’s Day Unit and Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)
at Colchester General Hospital and other areas of
the hospital used by children, such as the accident
& emergency department and outpatient waiting areas,
and also where children’s services are provided in
community clinics.
Graham Appleton, Children’s Services Fundraising
Co-ordinator, said: “As the build-up to
Christmas gets underway, this is a fantastic offer
of practical fundraising support for local children
by a local business. This appeal will directly
benefit children both within Colchester General
Hospital and at our outreach clinics.
If anyone else would like to make a donation to
children’s services - large or small - they should
phone me on 07929 751712 or email me at
graham.appleton@ntlworld.com
”
Crystal Threads sells alternative lifestyle and
natural products as well as offering an embroidery
service.
Anyone wanting to donate toys
can drop them off at Crystal Threads, located beside
Elmstead Market Post Office and FV Conservatories
and Windows in Old Forge Court, Colchester Road,
10.30am - 4.30pm, Monday - Saturday, before 6
December. For more information, phone the shop on
01206 827027 or visit its website at

Make-A-Wish
Foundation, the leading wish granting charity that
grants wishes to children and young people fighting
life-threatening illnesses, is increasing the number
of wishes it grants with the aim of granting 1,000 a
year by the end of 2010.
Since its inception in 1986, the charity has granted
over 5,000 magical wishes, currently granting up to
10 wishes a week. According to figures commissioned
by Make-A-Wish, there are some 20,000 children in
the UK at any one time with a life-threatening
illness, so there is always a demand for wishes. The
charity is now in a position to expand and grant
more wishes to sick children.
Anyone can refer a child, from the child’s parents,
their teacher, a health professional or social
worker. A child can even put themselves forward for
a wish. Make-A- Wish asks medical and health
professionals working with children to encourage
referrals. Referral forms are available through the
website,
www.make-a-wish.org.uk
or on T: 01276 40 50 60 or by emailing
info@make-a-wish.org.uk
