“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…”
And so begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on an epic quest, alongside his loyal steed Donkey and a feisty princess.
Shrek enjoys his ‘Big Bright Beautiful World’ in his swamp, when Pinocchio and his fairy tale misfit friends interrupt, they’ve been banished from Duloc by the evil (and vertically challenged) Lord Farquaad. Our green hero embarks on a journey to confront Lord Farquaad to take back the fairy tale creatures and claim back his land.
Along the way, a talkative Donkey befriends Shrek and insists on tagging along (much to Shrek’s annoyance) to show him the way, and the journey begins!
Pinocchio, Sugar Plum Fairy, Goldilocks and the Bears, three little pigs, three blind mice… You name the fairy tale character and you’ll see them treading the boards at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford, this February, fighting for their place in Duloc. Will they make it back home?
“Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”
Well, that could only be our Princess Fiona! And Lord Farquaad clearly thinks so too… He vows to marry the princess. The only slight glitch is that Fiona is trapped in a tower, guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. Farquaad demands that Shrek must rescue Fiona, and in return, he will give Shrek the deed to his swamp. No brainer, right?
After battling the Dragon (or did he?) Shrek and Fiona meet in her tower, needless to say he’s not quite the Prince Charming she’d been waiting for all these years!
How will the journey back to Duloc turn out? Will Lord Farquaad and Princess Fiona have their magical dream wedding? Come and see!
Based on the story and characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, this hilarious, all-singing, all-dancing production is a must-see musical comedy. Fairy tale creatures, fire-breathing dragons, adventure, laughter and romance, there really is something for everyone and is guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages!
Chelmsford Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (CAODS) are an award-winning local society and are extremely excited to be bringing this amazing show to Essex for the first time! A company never to shy away from a challenge; the costumes, and prosthetics alone, are quite the feat. With a wonderfully talented cast, get ready for some fantastic singing, acting and not to mention some tapping rats!
